Study the Official MTO Driver's Handbook and review Ontario's G1 licensing requirements. Questions here are original study examples, not official examination questions.
How to prepare for the Ontario G1 knowledge test
Ontario applicants must be at least 16 years old, be Ontario residents, and pass both a knowledge test and a vision test. As of May 11, 2026, Class G applicants must declare that Ontario is their primary place of residence and that their presence in Canada is legal. The knowledge test covers rules of the road and traffic signs. The official handbook is the best place to begin your study.
What to bring to your G1 test
Bring original, valid identification showing your legal name and date of birth, money for the applicable fees, and glasses or contact lenses if you need them to drive. Check the current Ontario identification requirements before visiting.
Where to take the test
You can take the knowledge test at an Ontario DriveTest centre without an appointment. ServiceOntario's Bay and College location in Toronto offers testing by appointment. Confirm service availability and opening hours before you travel.
Study tips
Review road signs, right-of-way rules, intersections, pedestrian safety, school buses and G1 restrictions. After each practice attempt, read the explanation for every missed answer and revisit the matching section of the handbook.
Note: Our free mock exam is for preparation only. A practice result is not an official G1 test result.
